Our Approach

Blueprint has earned the reputation of being the most sought-after mental health treatment practice in the community. We’ve earned this by offering the highest quality of clinical care in an environment that doesn’t feel clinical at all. The Blueprint team consists of highly trained therapists working together as a cohesive treatment team. We are not just people who are good at what we do- we are also current, relatable, down to earth, and we simply feel good to talk to.

At the end of the day talking about it does help.

Research proves it. There’s a reason for the well-known phrase “getting it off your chest”. Research shows that talking about our emotions provides relief. On the contrary, holding in emotions by bottling them up, avoiding them, pushing them down, or neglecting them can result in depression, anxiety, anger, and relational issues with people as well as the world around you. Take it a step further. Without healthy ways to cope with these emotions, people can resort to isolating, indulging in substance use, escapism, and even trying to hurt themselves. We actually have to acknowledge our emotions and talk about them to be healthy. Therapy provides a space to “talk about it” and learn healthy ways to cope with the emotions life inevitably brings us. When emotions are painful and are not addressed, they subconsciously drive our behavior and result in long-term chronic stress, which ultimately wreaks havoc on the mind and body. And let’s face it- we live every moment in our minds and body. We think you get our point.

Here’s what to expect when you’re a client with us:

The First Call.

We are a heavily sought out practice and our services are in high demand. Rather than having a ton of calls coming in at once and anxiously awaiting a call back, each initial call is scheduled in advance with our Client Relations Team. Sam, Helen or Scott will then call you at that designated time that works for you. That time is dedicated only for you. Every person calling has a story and is asking for help. That being said, you are never seen or spoken to as “a consult call”. We will treat you as you should be treated when you are asking for help- with compassion and understanding. Check out our Get Started page for more about this or to set up an initial call with us.

The Space.

There is no doubt about it, the atmosphere matters. The environment can either help or hinder the process. There’s a feeling you get when you first walk in that is hard to describe; you just feel a sense of calm. You’ll immediately get what we mean the first time you enter. From the smell, the aesthetics, the music, the lighting, and the clever messages throughout the space, Blueprint is certainly not your typical therapy office. In fact, we intentionally created the exact opposite. You’ll find layers of John and Michele’s personal touches throughout the whole space and each office is put together in a way that makes you feel like you’re actually not in an office at all. We can continue to pipe it up and it will never get the credit it truly deserves, you have to see it for yourself.

Connection Above Everything.

If you’re not comfortable you can’t open up. If you can’t be open, then therapy won’t work. The true core of therapy is actually not about all of the different approaches out there. It’s the ability to talk to someone (qualified) who you feel gets it and ultimately, gets you. We’re not saying that the therapeutic approach doesn’t matter…it does. We’re saying that without the connection – it doesn’t. We focus on connection above all so that the approach can be effective. This is the first phase of therapy with us and can take time.

Assessment & Identifying Treatment Goals

Once a connection is established, our therapist works with the client to better understand what’s going on and presenting concerns. This assessment phase is an ongoing process and can take various sessions to complete. Our therapist will work together with you (or your child) to identify their own individual treatment goals.

Sessions then consist of integrating these goals while also making sure you’re able to talk about anything you need for that day.

Evidence-Based Approaches and Interventions.

This looks different for everyone depending on the client’s age, needs and what helps them feel comfortable to open up. We assure you that these skills and techniques are being intertwined within therapy sessions even if it isn’t obvious. We purposely integrate these concepts in an organic way. Here are a few approaches we pull from:

Play Therapy: Children often heal and communicate through play. Our “littles” therapist will use strategic play therapy to help kids express and work through their emotions. This can both be fun and incredibly powerful.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT): This approach focuses on the connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behavior. By gaining awareness to our automatic thoughts, we can recognize unhealthy thought patterns and work on replacing them with healthier, more accurate thoughts.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Blueprint takes a DBT-informed approach within our sessions and integrates teaching skills from DBT as needed. DBT essentially focuses on mindfulness and specific skills to help with distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness (communication) skills, and general coping strategies to manage intense emotions. These skills can be incredibly helpful to reduce impulsivity and gain more control over maladaptive coping, such as self-harm.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): This approach focuses on accepting our emotions as they are, without judgment or shame, and committing to making behavioral changes that can improve our lives.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP): Sarah and Jason both use ERP, the recognized form of treatment, to treat those struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, fears, and phobias.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): EMDR is a form of therapy to process trauma and PTSD. Lindsay has completed her training in EMDR and is currently in the process of becoming EMDR certified. Clients looking for EMDR have to complete an EMDR consultation first with Lindsay.

Relational and Family Systems: This approach is specifically to help people improve communication within their relationships or family. In this approach, the relationship is viewed as the “identified client”. We help you to identify and explore underlying patterns, cycles, and dynamics and talk out what’s really going on in a completely safe and non-judgmental space.

Various Creative Interventions: No matter how old someone is, not everyone responds well to talk therapy in true form. It’s common for Blueprint therapists to engage in hands-on activities, art, creative writing, or music. We’re open to whatever works for you as long as you find it helpful in your therapy process.

Advancement and Growth.

We are always learning and evolving as a treatment team as the world around us continues to change rapidly. As new TikTok trends arise every morning, we must be just as in the loop with those advances as we are about the most recent advances in clinical research of psychotherapy. Our team meets weekly for clinical rounds and monthly for Clinical Advancement. Rounds is the space for our team to work together; when you are working with one of us you have the whole Blueprint team behind your care. Monthly Clinical Advancement is headed by our Clinical Advisor Jason. Month to month he will either arrange for an outside resource to come share knowledge with our team or plan for an in-house training with the intention to continue to strengthen our clinical base and remain up to date with the ever-evolving world around us that both we and our clients are living in. Blueprint additionally encourages the individual growth of every therapist on the team by contributing to unique yearly continuing education credits that will help to benefit our clients.
